
A first half 19th century teak and brass mounted secretaire campaign chest The chest probably originally the upper section of a two part piece, now on an early 20th century stand The top inset with a brass plaque engraved: 'DAVID WILSON', above a secretaire drawer enclosing four short drawers, two pigeon holes and a central shaped panelled door, over one long drawer, the later stand with four ring turned legs, the secretaire interior probably re-fitted in the 20th century, 72cm wide x 37cm deep x 92cm high, (28in wide x 14 1/2in deep x 36in high) Footnotes: Provenance The offered lot was purchased from Percy Black & Co, Aylesbury, 1 October 1958, lot 201. It is described in the invoice as a 'Seaman's Chest'. The present secretaire chest, along with the eight other pieces of campaign furniture featuring in this section of the sale, previously belonged to a private collector who acquired these items over the course of the last approximately 60 years. Following the collector's death, this wonderful selection of campaign furniture, which includes some particularly interesting and rare examples of its type, passed by familial descent on to the current owner and vendor.
