A Wedgwood black basalt library bust of Mercury Probably early 20th century, modelled after the antique The messenger god depicted quarter-length and gazing to sinister, his curled hair visible below a winged cap, titled MERCURY, raised on a circular socle, the bust and socle with impressed factory marks WEDGWOOD, the socle also impressed MADE IN ENGLAND, 46cm high approximately Footnotes: In May and June 1779 Hoskins and Grant provided Wedgwood with moulds for several busts including one of the god Mercury.
