OF RACING INTEREST: Two early 20th century nickel plated mounted horse's hoof commemorative trophies One formed as an inkwell, the hinged lid engraved DELANEIGE, the underside of the lid engraved WINNER 14 RACES VALUE £5290/2ND GRAND NATIONAL 1934 , now lacking the glass inkwell, the other mounted as smokers stand, the matchbox sleeve holder engraved BRENDANS'S COTTAGE/WINNER/CHELTENHAM/GOLD CUP/1934 and over engraved 1939, the top fitted with a removable ashtray, the first, 8.5cm high, 12cm wide, 15cm deep, the second, 11.5cm high, 12cm wide, 15.5cm deep (3) Footnotes: Provenance Made for the vendor's late grandfather George Beey, a successful race horse trainer to commemorate two of winners, Delaneige, which came second in the 1934 Grand National, accumulating over £5000 (worth over £280,000 today) in prize money during its lifetime, and Brendans Cottage which won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1939.
