An impressive George II mahogany tripod table of elegant proportions Circa 1755 The circular tilt-top with an unusual projecting husk and scrolled foliate carved waved and everted edge, on a concave sided triform column, with an s-scrolled base comprised of cabochon embedded rocaille clasped and acanthus carved inscrolled downswept legs, each leg terminating in a pair of opposing c-scrolls with a pair of opposing shells to the reverse of each foot, 82.5cm wide x 82cm deep x 78cm high, (32in wide x 32in deep x 30 1/2in high) Footnotes: A George II tripod with a base of related form, albeit with a different type of top than features on the offered lot, sold Christie's, London, 19 July 2022, Five Private Collections, lot 68. Interestingly, this comparable example also terminates in similar shell carving as appear to the reverse of the feet on the present table. Of particular note on the above model is the fine quality and beautiful crispness of the carving to the somewhat unusual projecting edge of the top, as well as to its elegant base.
