
An oak livery cupboard Probably constructed from first half 17th century elements such as the James I columnar supports and the apparently largely Charles I/II cabinet upper section With a fluted frieze above a triple moulded and lozenge panelled front carved with a central rosette, incorporating one central door, flanked by reed moulded angles, over a twin arched entrelac, flowerhead and lunette carved apron centred by a tablet bearing the raised initials: 'E.C.', on ring turned chip carved and fluted baluster columnar front supports, with a platform undertier, 117cm wide x 43cm deep x 118.5cm high, (46in wide x 16 1/2in deep x 46 1/2in high) Footnotes: Provenance Until fairly recently the present lot formed part of a collection of furniture and works of art, ranging from the 15th century to the 18th century, which furnished an early 15th century Sussex manor house. This collection was amassed predominantly over the course of the last quarter of the previous century; it included a number of rare and, in a few instances, very early oak pieces.
