1993 Bimota 904cc DB2 Registration no. K643 JNV Frame no. DB200056 Engine no. ZDM904AZC*006551* Bimota's not inconsiderable reputation rests on its creation of some of the fastest and most-exclusive sports bikes ever seen. Bimota first turned to Ducati v-twin power in 1985, installing the Bologna firm's 748cc air-cooled desmodromic-valved motor beneath a multi-tubular trellis frame. State-of-the-art suspension and brakes were courtesy of Marzocchi and Brembo respectively, while the DB's quality of finish was on a level other Italian firms could only dream about. Nevertheless, Bimota's finances were on shaky ground when the 'entry level' DB1 was announced, and its relative affordability - by Bimota's standards - helped save the company. Introduced for 1993, the successor DB2 was constructed along broadly similar lines, albeit with a tubular-steel swinging arm (replacing the DB1's alloy unit) and the 904cc version of Ducati's air-cooled v-twin, as found in the contemporary 900SS. Bimota's own exhaust system raised the otherwise standard motor's maximum to 75bhp, which was good enough to propel the relatively lightweight (180kg ready to ride) DB2 to 137mph (220km/h). Its under-seat exhaust was a first for Bimota, predating the Ducati 916 by a couple of years. Other notable features included Paioli forks, an Öhlins shock absorber, Brembo Gold brake calipers, and Oscam wheels. In a new departure, the DB2 was offered in two versions: one with a half-fairing (123 units) and the other with full bodywork (285). This DB2 was privately imported and first registered in the UK in July 2011. The Bimota was purchased by the private vendor in June 2022 from Moto Strada in North Yorkshire and has been used only occasionally for dry-weather day trips to race meetings and motorcycle gatherings, including Donington Park and Matlock. Only 649 kilometres (403 miles ) have been covered since acquisition (the current odometer reading is 20,959 kilometres, which equates to 13,023 miles). Stored in a dry environment as part of a small private collection, this rare and highly desirable piece of Italian motorcycling exotica is offered with a Bimota parts catalogue; Bimota brochure; Bimota warranty card; purchase invoice; bills for recent works; a current V5C document; and some old MoT certificates (most recent expired in June 2025).
