c.1999 Bimota 904cc DB4 Registration no. PN02 KFX Frame no. ZE5DB4000XR000127 Engine no. ZDM904A2C*049772* Founded in the mid-1960s, Bimota manufactured heating and ventilation ducting before the enthusiasm of two of its motorcyclist founders - Giuseppe Morri and Massimo Tamburini - saw it turn to motorcycle production in the early 1970s. The intervening 50-or-so years has seen Bimota established as one of the world's foremost producers of exclusive, limited edition, high performance motorcycles with a reputation for quality second to none. The fourth Ducati-engined Bimota, the DB4 was first shown to the public in 1998, with production commencing the following year. The 904cc air-cooled Ducati v-twin engine was carried in a frame made up of oval-section aluminium tubing, the latter first seen in the DB3 Mantra and quite unlike the tubular steel trellis of the DB1 and DB2. Twin exhausts, stacked on the right-hand side, were an unusual feature. The 900SS motor was used in carburettor-fed form initially before being upgraded with fuel injection from the 2000 model year onwards, in which form it produced 89bhp, while the twin exhausts were dropped. Those 89 horses were good enough to propel the relatively lightweight (185kg ready to ride) DB4 to 137mph (220km/h). Introduced with the evocative Tri-Colore paint scheme of the DB1, the DB4 gained two new finishes for 2000: black/red/silver and black/yellow/silver. When production ceased at the end of 2000 a total of 264 had been built. This DB4 was first registered as a new motorcycle in March 2002. Our private vendor purchased the Bimota in June 2023 from Lusso Veloce in Leicestershire with only 6,098 kilometres (3,789 miles) showing on the odometer, to which total he has added a further 643 kilometres (400 miles). The machine has been used sparingly for fine-weather trips to bike meetings, etc and when not in use has been stored in a dry environment. Accompanying paperwork consists of the following: •Current V5C Registration Certificate •Some old MoTs (last expired in September 2005) •Bimota DB4 brochure •Bimota DB4 instruction manual •Bimota DB4 workshop manual •Bimota warranty & service book •Purchase invoice •Copy of the parts catalogue Footnotes: BUYER'S PREMIUM The Buyer's Premium for this Lot is 15%+VAT on the first £500k of the Hammer Price, and 12%+VAT on the balance thereafter.
