1976 Honda CB200 Registration no. OYU 972R (see text) Frame no. none visible (see text) Engine no. CB200E-1059282 (see text) Introduced in 1973, the Honda CB200 sports roadster superseded the old CB175 and came with a tubular spine frame, twin carburettors, a five-speed gearbox, and either a drum or disc front brake. Back in 1974, Bike magazine found theirs a little slower than both the Yamaha RD200 and Suzuki GT185, though considerably more economical. 'It might not be the fastest thing around,' remarked Britain's No.1 motorcycling magazine, 'but somehow it looks and feels more like a real motorcycle than its two-stroke counterparts. It's a little bike with a big heart'. Physically smaller and lighter than Honda's contemporary 250, it must have seemed the ideal mount for lady riders and gents small in stature. This CB200 was requiring restoration when acquired by the private vendor in 2014. It took the vendor five years to complete the full restoration, which included changing the engine and having the frame powder coated. The vendor advises; OEM parts were used throughout except for the exhaust system. Since completion the Honda has been used sparingly, with the occasional ride out to the Ace Café in London, and was last run a few weeks ago. Kept dry-stored in the garage when not in use, it is only being sold because the vendor is down-sizing his collection. Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed. It should be noted that the V5C/HPI records a frame number of 'CB200-1047284', although we have not been able to locate a frame number. Therefore, while the machine appears in the DVLA vehicle check database, prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves with regard to the validity and status of the VRN prior to bidding. Furthermore, the V5C/HPI records the engine number as 'CB200-E-1049131', which refers to the previous engine unit (no longer available); it is the responsibility of the successful purchaser to update the engine number with the DVLA. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding. Accompanying documents include a current V5C Registration Certificate; numerous David Silver Spares receipts; other bills and invoices; an owner's manual and (copy) workshop manual; and some Honda CB200-related literature.
