1984 Kawasaki Z1000R Superbike Replica Registration no. AB11 MWD Frame no. KZT100R-001919 Engine no. KZT00JE041251 The first major revision of Kawasaki's trend-setting Z1/Z900 arrived in 1977 in the form of the Z1000, which, as its name suggests, was a bored-out version of the original double-overhead-cam four. Power went up - marginally - to 83bhp, while there was more torque delivered further down the rev range than before. Testing the new Z1000 in February 1977, Bike magazine had to contend with a wet track but nevertheless recorded a 12.76-second standing quarter-mile time, despite an enforced half-throttle take-off, and a staggering terminal velocity of 117mph with rider normally seated! A much-revised frame meant that the Z1000 had lost some of its predecessors' wayward handling while remaining every bit as refined. Introduced soon afterwards and intended to appeal to European tastes, the more expensive Z1-R version featured a partially black-finished engine, cockpit fairing, lower 'bars, and a coffin-shaped fuel tank, while the more obvious mechanical changes amounted to a 4-into-1 exhaust, cast wheels, drilled brake discs, and callipers mounted behind the fork legs. The chassis was mildly revised (again) and power went up to 90bhp, which was good enough for a top speed of 133mph. Redesignated Z1000R for 1982, the model lasted for only one more year, ceasing production at the end of 1983. Believed original, this last-of-the-line Kawasaki sports roadster was imported from Germany into Dublin, Republic of Ireland where it became the centrepiece of a private collection. Our private vendor first saw the Z1000R in 2010 when they were collecting another bike, and was able to buy it two years later. After a quick flight to Ireland and an epic ride home, the Z1000R joined the vendor's own private collection. The Kawasaki was first registered in the UK on 1st May 2012, while the last MoT expired on 10th May 2021. We're advised by the private vendor that the rear shocks were rebuilt by Firefox Racing last year with new progressive springs fitted and that the original springs are supplied. The current odometer reading is 28,224 miles. Always dry stored and used only occasionally, the machine is offered with a V5C Registration Certificate; range brochures; marque-related literature; sundry invoices; the 2012 purchase receipt; and various manuals. Also offered are a bike cover, centre stand and sundry spares.
