In March 2012, Mercedes-Benz announced the latest family of its much loved and highly respected SL sports cars. A sleek design in the modern idiom, this new Type R231 body/chassis was made almost entirely of aluminium, achieving a useful weight saving over the previous R230 model and affording improved fuel consumption. This new SL was available with a choice of five different engine types: 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12; 5.5-litre twin turbo V8, 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8; 3.0-litre twin turbo V6; and a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6, the latter being used for the SL 350, as seen here. An automatic gearbox was the only transmission type on offer, with seven-speed and nine-speed units available depending on the model (this example has the seven-speed). As one might expect, these new SL luxury sports cars were designed to be world leaders in their class and came lavishly equipped in the best Mercedes-Benz tradition, boasting all the very latest electronic safety features. This SL 350 was purchased from the private vendor's friend's wife and has been dry stored since acquisition. Serviced in 2024, the Mercedes has been used sparingly and currently displays a total of 72,592 miles on the odometer.
