1973 Puch 49cc MS50D Moped Registration no. XST 108L Frame no. 7825340 Engine no. 7825340 Yet another motorcycle manufacturer with its roots in the bicycle industry, the Austrian firm of Puch built its first powered two-wheeler in the early 1900s and went on to produce some outstanding and innovative designs in the 1950s. Its post-WW2 output was confined to two-strokes, one of the most successful of which was the MS50 family of mopeds, the first of which appeared in 1954, one year after NSU's Quickly competitor. Looking very much like the Quickly, the MS50 featured a pressed steel spine frame, telescopic front fork and swinging-arm rear suspension, while the two-speed (later three-speed) gearbox was operated by the left-side twist-grip. Only in the use of fan cooling for the 49cc engine did the MS50 depart for the Quickly pattern. Like is NSU rival, the MS50 family would prove to be immensely successful, with it and its German counterpart both selling over 1 million examples. Currently displaying a total of 15,105 miles on the odometer, the example offered was purchased by the current private vendor in the recent Bonhams Autumn Stafford Sale (Lot 247) and is a three-speed model with matching frame and engine numbers. A light and fun machine, the MS50 is lively for its size and easy to ride, starting on the first kick. These charming little machines are becoming increasingly collectible. Supplied with V5C document. Key not required Footnotes: BUYER'S PREMIUM The Buyer's Premium for this Lot is 15%+VAT on the first £500k of the Hammer Price, and 12%+VAT on the balance thereafter.
