Fine well carved large shield, stylized head of a ray fish forms top, and the main body of the shield is covered with well carved relief designs, five flying fox motifs in expanding size along the center, interspersed with cuscus tail designs, some with flying fox feet, and abstract insect designs along edge. Still retaining the red ochre, black, and traces of white pigment. Handle on back. Some loss along edges, generally exc. cond. for such a large shield. Custom base.68-1/4"H. (173cm)
