
Description
Shinto-period wakizashi in wooden shirasaya mounts. The blade bears a signature purporting to be Hizen no Kuni Ju Tadayoshi; however, the signature is considered gimei (a false or later-added signature). Gimei signatures attributed to the Tadayoshi lineage are well documented and not uncommon. The blade is believed to date to the mid-to-late Edo period (circa 1600s–1800s) and features a well-formed doranba-style hamon. A handwritten card accompanying the sword attributes the blade to Bungo Yoshiyuki and dates it to 1861 (Bunkyu era.
