DAVISON (EMILY WILDING) In Memoriam. Miss Emily Wilding Davison, B.A., programme for Emily Wilding Davison's memorial service, St. George's Church, Bloomsbury, 14 June [1913] at 4pm, 4 pages on a bifolium, photographic portrait on first leaf, printed in black on cream paper, dust-staining, spotting and marks, 8vo (190 x 126mm.), Philip & Sons, Harlesden, 1913 Footnotes: 'GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIEND': A MEMORIAL FOR A SUFFRAGETTE MARTYR. After the Pankhursts, Emily Wilding Davison is arguably the best-known suffragette and the story of her death on 8 June 1913 following injuries sustained at the Epsom Derby four days earlier has been the subject of much speculation. Whilst her motives remain unclear, by this final act she became forever a martyr to the cause and was accorded a spectacular funeral, attended by her closest friends and a procession of some six thousand mourners. Her memorial service was conducted by Reverend H. Baumgarten and Reverend Claude Hinscliff, a leading member of the Church League for Women's Suffrage.
