SUFFRAGE 'INTARSIO' TEAPOT Frederick Rhead for Foley 'Intarsio' teapot, in the form of a suffrage supporter, wearing a long navy blue coat, red waistcoat and a 'Votes for Women' badge on her lapel, a leaflet sticking out of her pocket, the head forming the lid, 'Intarsio' England marks, 180mm. high, England, [c.1900] Footnotes: Foley made several satirical character teapots of other contemporary political figures including Winston Churchill, Paul Kruger, Joseph Chamberlain, Kitchener and Lord Rosebery, designed by Frederick Alfred Rhead (1856-1933). This rare example could depict Lydia Becker (1827-1890), the most prominent campaigner for women's suffrage in the nineteenth-century.
