Two Basketballs Signed by George Mikan and Red Auerbach one signed George Mikan and dated indistinctly, the other signed and inscribed Red Auerbach / Celtics, each in black felt marker Footnotes: Red Auerbach served as head coach of the Boston Celtics from 1959 to 1966, leading the team to an extraordinary eight consecutive NBA championships. By the time he retired in 1966, he had amassed a then-record 938 career coaching wins. Earlier in his career, Auerbach also coached the Washington Capitols from 1946 to 1949. George Mikan was a dominant basketball player for the Chicago American Gears and later the Minneapolis Lakers.
