The Lykeiou ton Ellinidon (Λύκειον των Ελληνίδων) or Lyceum Club for Greek Women is an organisation initially established in Athens in 1911 by founding feminist Callirhoe Siganou-Parren, seeking to promote female emancipation and opportunities in work and education. The organisation also champions the preservation of Greek heritage, managing a large collection of traditional Greek national dress and copies of local folk costume. The Amalia is one such national dress, created by Queen Amalia who was the wife of King Otto of Greece from 1837-1862. Worn now largely on Greek national holidays, the Biedermeier-inspired ensemble was once the official court dress and became popular in Athens and in the Ottoman Balkans.
