American. 1920-1932. Pressed steel. The Dayton Toy Company, known for its small, tin or lighter-gauge pressed steel "Hill Climber" toys, introduced the "Son-ny" line primarily to compete in the exploding market demand for large, durable, pressed steel toys. The Son-ny line was a more affordable alternative to competitors like Buddy "L", offering similar, heavy-gauged pressed steel toys, like this Police Patrol truck, at a lower price point. Marked, "The Dayton Toy & Specialty Co. Dayton, Ohio", on grille. Marked, "Son-ny", with trademarked logo on grille. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
