American. 1950s. Pressed steel, lithographed tin. This is a large aerial fire truck for engine No. 9 of the "V.F.D." (Volunteer Fire Department). This toy was also a "private-label" series that was made for Sears, Roebuck and Company, which then sold it under its own "Allstate" brand. During the era of this truck, Sears, Roebuck used the "Allstate" name as a house brand for a variety of products, particularly automotive goods. This was long before the name "Allstate" became synonymous solely with the insurance company (notably, the insurance company took the name from a brand of automobile tires Sears had been selling). This truck would have been sold as either a stand-alone piece or part of certain Sears "Allstate" playsets and service counter sets. Embossed, "Lumar", on tires. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
