American. 1950s-1960s. Pressed steel. This toy was produced as a private-label advertising vehicle for the J.J. Newberry Co., an American department store chain. The "private-label" series were toys with private company names that were used as promotional items – these production runs were typically small as the toys were not intended for retail consumption. There is a notable printing error on this toy. The actual size of the tires, according to Marx production records, was intended to be 10.00" x 20" (as per the tire markings) but is printed as "Tires 11.00 x 20" on the lower part of the cab doors. Embossed, "Lumar 10.00 x 20", on tires. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
