American. Late 1920s-Early 1930s. Pressed steel. This Steelcraft plane is a large pull-toy (see metal loop on nose of plane). The "NX107" on the tail and the "Little Jim" decal indicate the toy was a specific "store-branding" for the "Little Jim" toy line that was sold exclusively by J.C. Penney stores. While the plane was also made by other major toy companies, the "NX107" registration number confirms it to be a Steelcraft "Army Scout". The plane was designed as a high-wing monoplane (meaning the wing was mounted on top of the fuselage), a common aesthetic for the scout and observation aircraft of the era. Decalled, "Little Jim J.C. Penney Company Inc. Playthings", on rear sides. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
