American. 1930s. Pressed steel. This is a large pull-toy (see metal loop on nose of plane). It is a tri-motor (3 propellers), high-wing monoplane (single wing mounted on top of the fuselage). The plane was part of the "rapid fire" series, which included a mechanism that made a "firing" sound as the propellers turned or the toy was pulled or pushed. The plane did not come with any accessories; however, other Keystone toys, like their U.S. Mail Trucks, did come with small canvas mail bags and, like the "jumper", these were often used with other toys. Decalled, "Keystone Rapid-Fire Tri-Motor Air Mail Built By Keystone Mfg. Co. Boston, Mass. U.S.A.", on sides of nose. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
