American. 1909-1931/32. Tinplate with cast iron driver. This friction toy was part of the Schieble Toy and Novelty Company's "Hill Climber" series of toys. Typically, we can determine the manufacturer and the date by looking at two things: first, are there any markings on the toy - this toy is unmarked; and second, we examine the flywheel mechanism. The mechanism on this toy, upon review of the patent design drawings, appears to be indicative of the style patented by the Schieble company. This toy would have been produced sometime between the date the Schieble company started (1909) and when the company ceased production in 1931/1932 From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
