American. 1946-1950s. Pressed steel. This truck was made by Louis Marx & Co. under the Lumar brand. "Lumar Contractors" was not a real construction company; it was a fictional brand name created to make the toy trucks appear more authentic to children. The Lumar Contractors truck was sold extensively through major department stores and large mail-order catalogues like Sears and Montgomery Ward, thereby reaching a wide audience. The "Lumar Contractors" line was first introduced in 1933 and continued in production until 1941 (the U.S. entry into WWII). Post WWII, the toy reached peak popularity during the late 1940s and 1950s. Decalled, "Made in United States of America Marx Toys" and "Lumar Contractors", on front sides of dump bed. Embossed, "Lumar", on tires. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
