American. 1950s. Lithographed tin. When wound, the mechanism controls the wheels, allowing the plane to move forward, preparing for takeoff. Following WWII, toys with military themes, including planes and soldiers, were very popular with children. Toys such as this one, with detailed Army bomber designs, captivated kids through their detailed and realistic graphics.
