American. 1950s. Lithographed tin. This truck was made by Louis Marx & Co. under the Lumar brand. It was part of a series of emergency service vehicles and is known for its distinctive, large searchlight. There is a reference to "Permit No. 265" on the truck, a decorative detail meant to replicate the official marking of a commercial or municipal vehicle. In the 1950s, real-world utility vehicles were often required to display permit numbers from state or local regulatory bodies to prove they were authorized for specialized emergency or commercial use. Marked, "Made In United States Of America Marx Toys New York", at lower section of passenger cab door. Embossed, "Lumar", on tires. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
