American. 1952-1955. Pressed steel. This is a rare toy produced by the Miller-Ironson Corp. ("MIC"), a company that was formed by Matt Miller when he left Smith-Miller in 1952. The new company was a late-stage spin-off competitor to the Smith-Miller line of toys. Despite the new name, toys made by MIC were actually produced in the Smith-Miller plant and continue to be known as Smith-Miller MIC trucks. Their presence in the market was brief (1952-1955). Production runs were small, with fewer of these toys entering the market, unlike their mass-produced counterparts. The MIC link with the original Smith-Toys company is evident by the "SB-408" marking on the underside, with "SB" referring to "Smitty Built" along with the 408 model number that would have referred to an MIC identification number. Embossed, "SB-408", on underside. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
