American. 1942-1945. Wood with metal accessories. Wooden toys, such as this Buddy "L" Fire Dept. truck, were sometimes referred to as "Buddy "L" Victory" toys, created during WWII when steel was scarce, and companies had to turn to other materials as a way of supporting the war effort by repurposing materials. Moline company records show this truck was primarily manufactured between 1942 and 1945. Decalled, "Buddy "L" Fire Dept.", on articulating door panels. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
