American. Late 1940s-early 1950s. Pressed steel. The Railway Express Agency was a real American package delivery service that operated a fleet of refrigerated rail cars (known as "reefers"). This real-world service is what inspired this truck. While the toy is advertising a real-world company, it is not considered a "private-label" toy. The Moline company, instead, had a common practice of leasing "advertising space" on their toy trucks. It was a great way for companies to advertise plus it was a great way to bolster profits for the company. Decalled, "Buddy L", on front of cargo box. Embossed, "Buddy L", Toys East Moline, Illinois", on tires. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
