English. Late 1920s-1937. Wood, tinplate. This toy is a notable piece of industrial design from the world's once-largest toy manufacturer, the Lines Brothers. The original wooden model was built true to scale from the official drawings supplied by the London General Omnibus Company. To achieve the rounded look of a London bus, the rear was made from custom-curved plywood, a feat that was rare for the time and almost unheard of in toy manufacturing. While the red London version of this bus is the most famous, the company made other versions for various other cities in England, using their respective city colors. Two badges marked, "L. Bros. Ltd. London England L Bros.", at front of bus, on side decals, and on rear staircase. From the Yvan Lalonde Collection.
