Grateful Dead: 'Sunshine Daydream' Tie-Dye Artwork by Courtenay Pollock Created for their box set, 2013, tie-dye on cotton, created by Courtenay Pollock in June 2013 for the cover of the Grateful Dead box set release of their 1972 shows near Veneta, Oregon. The box set included video, audio and booklet with an additional vinyl release all featuring this 'Sunshine Mandala' artwork, with certificate signed by the artist, 80 x 90in. Footnotes: Courtenay Pollock is best known as the artist behind the Grateful Dead's iconic tie-dye stage backdrops and Jerry Garcia's custom speaker covers. A pioneer of the 'tie-dye mandala' technique, Pollock elevated tie-dye to a form of psychedelic fine art, becoming closely associated with the visual identity of the band during the 1970s. His work helped define the vibrant, countercultural aesthetic of the Dead's live performances. Provenance: Originally sold by the artist, acquired by the current vendor in 2020.
