U.S.A. 1943-1962. Reverse painted glass. Aluminum case. Plastic caseback. This would have been a "salesman sample" advertising the manufacturer of the "bathroom scale" thermometers. This piece was not intended for retail sale or general display and while the company made thousands of this style of product for clients, the production run for these "samples" would have been relatively small. The "bathroom scale" thermometer got its name from collectors who noted the internal mechanism and the visual layout resemble a classic bathroom scale. This thermometer was made during the "postal zone era". During this period, the maker used the address "Cincinnati 23, Ohio" (noted on reverse). This era began in 1943, when the U.S. Post Office introduced two-digit postal zones ("23") and ended In 1963, when they replaced the zone codes with ZIP codes. Embossed, "Advertising Products Inc. Cincinnati 23, Ohio Made in USA" on reverse. All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions.
