U.S.A. 1943-1962. Reverse painted glass. Aluminum case. Plastic caseback. The "bathroom scale" thermometer got its name from collectors who noted the internal mechanism and the visual layout resemble a classic bathroom scale. The Universal Milking company was established in the 1910s and specialized in milking machines and farm equipment for the agricultural sector. This thermometer was made during the "postal zone era". During this period, the maker used the address "Cincinnati 23, Ohio" (noted on reverse). This era began in 1943, when the U.S. Post Office introduced two-digit postal zones ("23") and ended in 1963, when they replaced the zone codes with ZIP codes. This confirms the date of this item to be between 1943-1963, a time when the Universal Milking company was known for heavily using the "bathroom scale" thermometer as part of their marketing campaign. Embossed, "Advertising Products Inc. Cincinnati 23, Ohio Made in U.S.A." on reverse. All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions.
