Canadian. Late 1800s to early 1900s. Lithographed tin. Like many of the early Canadian pocket tobacco tins, the Gold Dust tin is also considered among the rarest and most desirable Canadian pocket tobacco tins. It is also the only Canadian tobacco tin that is made in a curved form, which was created to better fit into a back pocket. The images are vibrant and feature a prospector who was panning for gold so he could reveal his find to two well-dressed men who could very well be what we may classify today as "financial backers" who want to ensure he doesn't cheat them out of any found gold. The tin retains some of its original gold finish, used by the company to give the appearance of real gold and implying a superior quality tobacco. Marked, "Manufactured By The B. Houde Co. Limited, Quebec.", underneath. All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions. From the late Marcel Gallays Collection.
