
American. 1930s. Lithographed tin. Hi-Plane was a popular tobacco brand made by Larus & Bro. Co. Larus was a small tobacco company, founded in 1877, that gained national recognition with its Edgeworth pipe tobacco brand. These tins are attractive to collectors due to their vibrant graphics that highlight a variety of planes. Each of these tins is unique, showing two different variants, with two different models of planes. Marked, "Manufactured By Larus & Bro. Co. Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A.", on side. Marked, "Made In U.S.A.", lower edge on reverse. Marked, "Factory No. 45 - Dist. of Va.", on sides. All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions. Condition
Plane facing up: strong colour and gloss with minor surface nicks. Front side shows minor impressions at the lower left edge. Reverse side shows some surface wear at the upper right margin. Retains partial tax stamp. Plane facing down: unopened with unbroken tax stamp, and product inside. Staining and oxidation to both sides. Stains bleed from lower edge and hinges.
