Condition Report:
Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use
Some old chips and splits, some old repairs, some minor old losses.
Good original surface, colour and patina. Some good unusual features give the piece character including elements of very fine chevron banding to the doors.
Locks to drawers and handles are original. The key is present and operates the locks to the drawers. The lock to the bottom drawer is lacking. The original lock to the doors is present and key present to operate it. A screwed in metal plate has been neatly later added where the lock engages into the opposing door and there have been some old losses/ wear.
Old worm holes visible to the cornice and in some other areas but mainly only visible from the underside of the chest (see images) and a fragment of veneer detached but present in the drawer.
There are some old cracks to the doors caused by shrinkage. Some or all of these could be disguised by restoration. Some minor warping to the doors as expected for age.
All four slides are present to the interior. Some staining and discoloration to the slides. There are some additional old screw holes to the front edge of the interior of the cupboard section.
Some sympathetic restoration would make this a very presentable piece.
The feet all appear original. There is some old evidence of minor re-gluing from beneath. The feet may have previously been detached and re-glued, this could be done more neatly. There is minor glue residue visible in areas adjacent. Rear panels all original.
