Description
Early 19th century Kentucky cherry one-drawer stand or work table, the rectangular top with slightly overhanging edge above a single dovetailed drawer fitted with an oval brass pull cast in relief with a cornucopia and floral motif. The case is supported by four turned legs, the front legs boldly ring-turned and tapering, the rear legs more simply turned, reflecting the straightforward regional craftsmanship associated with Kentucky furniture of the Federal period. The warm, richly figured cherry displays a deep, mellow patina with visible grain movement and subtle color variation consistent with age. The drawer construction with hand-cut dovetails and solid secondary woods further supports an early 19th century attribution. A versatile form suitable as a bedside table, hall stand, or lamp table. 29 in H, 20.5 in W, 18 in D
Condition
Very good antique condition; drawer slides smoothly; sturdy and stable; scattered surface wear, minor marks, and age-appropriate finish variation consistent with early 19th century use; brass pull intact and well seated.
