According to Maranello Concessionaires order D/355 dated 15 June 1977, this right-hand-drive 308 GT4 was supplied new on 15 September 1977 to Italian doctor Mariano Capozzi, who personally collected the car from the factory.
It was delivered in an exceptionally tasteful and believed unique factory specification:
- Argento Auteuil (106-E-32)
- 512 BB seats trimmed in Blue VM3015 Connolly hide
- Rear luggage rack in lieu of rear seats
- 7.5x14 Cromodora wide wheels
- Air conditioning
The car spent its early life in Italy, covering some 31,000 miles by 1982, as recorded in a handwritten log kept by the original owner. It subsequently returned to the UK, where it was registered to a long-term keeper (notably on the registration “NW1”). During this period the car was repainted in its current Rosso Chiaro and the interior recoloured to Sabbia.
The original factory warranty book accompanies the car and contains 16 service stamps from Maranello Concessionaires, main dealers and respected specialist Terry Hoyle up to 1988 and 46,000 miles, when the car changed hands again. Further invoices throughout the 1990s demonstrate consistent and careful maintenance.
Eddie Walsh acquired the car in 2004 and set about a comprehensive restoration, including a bare-metal body strip and repaint in red, mechanical overhaul and attention to the interior. It appears the car saw very limited use following completion of this work.
After a prolonged period in storage, we have carefully recommissioned the car in preparation for sale. Works include:
- Replacement timing belts and bearings
- Fuel system inspection and attention
- Carburettor checking and adjustment
- New spark plugs
- Fresh coolant and replacement hoses as required
- New HD battery
- Brakes freed and inspected
The car started immediately and runs sweetly, with strong oil pressure and virtually no smoke. It performed well on test, reaching and maintaining correct operating temperature. Fitted with a mild steel Ansa exhaust, it delivers the right soundtrack too!
The interior presents as an older restoration with a pleasing patina. The front seat leather shows light wear consistent with age, while the carpets remain fresh. The dashboard and switchgear are complete and in good order.
Inspection revealed a notably rust-free chassis. The bodywork is straight with good, even panel gaps. The paintwork, now about 20 years old, shows minor storage-related marks and imperfections, yet the overall presentation remains strong. The glass is excellent and the bumpers are unmarked.
Regarded by cognoscenti as one of the finest-driving Ferraris of the era, chassis 13768 represents a rare opportunity to acquire a believed-unique example - one equally suited to both serious collectors and enthusiastic drivers alike.
A file of over 100 photos of the car is available upon request to interested parties.
