Including a stapled press kit, performance invitations, and a xeroxed script for Champagne's performance Reptile Warmth. The press kit includes a biography detailing her presentations at Franklin Furnace, Just Above Midtown/Downtown, and Performance Space 122. Invitations for From The Red Light District and Fractured Juliet. An excerpt from Reptile Warmth: [Sound tape on in darkness. Swamp sounds continue as lights come up on performance area. The performer walks in as the tape places, stopping to listen and look. When the tape ends, she continues walking forward, whistling a tune. She raises her arms as the beginning of "Vespers for the Virgin" is played on the sound tape. She turns, walks toward the audience, kneels, and lies face down with arms outspread, like nuns do during prayer. When the sound tape ends, she scrambles up and says to audience: ...]
Lenora Champagne (American, b. 1952) works as a performance artist, playwright, and educator. She explores themes of identity, memory, and gender through site-specific works and solo performances. Champagne received a Fulbright Fellowship and multiple grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work often incorporates multi-media elements and experimental narratives. She currently serves as a Professor of Theatre and Performance at Purchase College.
