
A Wedgwood Trentham Majolica vase Circa 1865 After a model by Rowland Morris (1847-1898), in polychrome enamels, the central amphora with lug handles and pendant ropes, supported on the backs of two addorsed putti, the shaped base applied with gardening tools, raised on scroll feet, 28.5cm high, impressed marks. Footnotes: Rowland J. Morris was a pupil of the Kensington School of Design, sculptor and designer of architectural elements. He is recorded as a celebrated exhibitor at the London International Exhibition of 1871, see the Art Journal of that year, p. 91; along with William Wright, he was known for modelling the large terracotta panels of 'The Labours of the Months' depicting the potter's regimen on the facade of the former Wedgwood Institute, Queen Street, Burslem.
