In his Journal, he reports local customs and costumes, and also describes meeting with the ruler of Ottoman Albania Ali Pasha (1740-1822). Turner's account includes rare images engraved from early Turkish drawings in the author's collection, and costumes from Chios, Mykonos and Cairo.
