
AN 18K GOLD PASTORAL RING The open ring, designed as a mirtre, finely chased with a depiction of Christ flanked by Saints Peter and Paul in niches beneath an anchor cross, the papal coat-of-arms to the interior, weight 8.4 dwt, approximately size 11. Footnotes: The Second Ecumenical Vatican Council (Concilium Oecumenicum Vaticanum II) took place in Rome from 11th October 1962 to 8th December 1965. It was convened by Pope John XXIII and laid down the basic principles for a reform of the Roman Catholic Church. At the conclusion of Vatican II, John's successor, Pope Paul VI, presented all the Council Fathers with a mitre-shaped bishop's ring bearing his papal coat of arms on the inside as a sign of communion and in remembrance. The design and execution are by the sculptor Enrico Manfrini (1917 Lugo de Romagna - 2004 Milan), a specialist in sacred art who created many works for the Vatican, from Pius XII up until John Paul II.
