THE MATRIX RELOADED (2003) - Keanu Reeves' Personal Bound Hand-Annotated Script - Keanu Reeves' bound hand-annotated script from the production of the Wachowskis' The Matrix Reloaded. In the film, Neo (Reeves) - having discovered and accepted his role as The One, the prophesied savior of humanity, in The Matrix - was thrust deeper into the titular program in an attempt to prevent Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) from usurping control of it and obliterating humanity.
On the heels of the culture-shaking success of The Matrix, Reloaded grossed more than $741 million in global box office, becoming both the highest-grossing film of the franchise and the highest-grossing R-rated film in history for 13 years. Both the filmmakers and cast earned significant accolades, with Reeves himself nominated for both Best Fight and Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards®.
Reeves' portrayal of Neo, his signature role, over four blockbuster films between 1999 and 2021 has today earned him worldwide acclaim among the most respected action film stars of all time. In 2020, one year prior to the release of The Matrix Resurrections, he was named the fourth-greatest actor of the 21st century by the New York Times' A. O. Scott.
This leather hardback cover-bound script originates from a person close to Reeves. It is credited to the Wachowskis and dated "August 10, 2001" (pink revisions), "March 19, 2001" (blue revisions), and "October 27, 2001." The script is watermarked throughout for "Keanu Reeves," and 88 of the pages feature extensive annotations in Reeves' hand.
Reeves' notes include dialog changes, set directions, and questions about the intentions of both his character and others'. A note on the back of page 11 reads "Have I dreamt of Smith? Feeling a change in the Matrix - A new shadow on the periphery?", while another responding to Morpheus' (Laurence Fishburne) classic line "I believe it is our fate to be here." on page 104 asks "How do I feel about that? Do I agree?" Additionally, some of Reeves' notes include personal stage directions, such as "Looking/Listening Intensifies" while Neo is on the Nebuchadnezzar on page 10 and "Sigh, turn away, can't face - close eyes and collection, or look down" for when Neo speaks to The Oracle (Gloria Foster) in the courtyard on page 54.
This extremely rare script comes stored in a box sleeve. The cover has some wear from use, including scuffing at the bottom, near the spine. Dimensions: 12.5" x 9.25" x 1.25" (32 cm x 23.5 cm x 3 cm)
