Description: Gavin Turk (b.1967) 'It's in the Bag', six colour lithograph, framed, Stamped, Editioned, Signed, 2000
Description – It’s in the Bag. This print was published by Counter Editions in 2000, Signed in pencil lower right, dated; edition number 3/100, 6 coloured lithograph, 91.5cm x 72cm overall frame size.
Edition Number 1/100 was donated and can be found in the V&A Museum, South Kensington. This print elevates the humble black bin liner to an object of interest and beauty, exquisitely rendered in a six-colour lithograph. More recently he has made life-like life-size sculptures of bin bags, made of black-painted bronze.
Turk’s work has often focused on everyday images and materials from the urban street. Here he has made a meticulous work of art – a six colour lithograph – portraying something designed to be thrown away. He gently mocks the pretensions of fine art, and questions conventional definitions of value, originality and significance.
