Minimally foxed. In the late 19th century, Liebermann developed a modern visual language that made him one of the most important representatives of German Impressionism. Influenced by 17th-century Dutch painting, the plein-air painting of the Barbizon School, and French Impressionists, he preferred to paint atmospherically dense, light-filled park and garden landscapes, working people, beach scenes, and interiors.
