
CHAPLIN CHARLES: (1889-1977) English film comedian, Academy Award winner. A good T.L.S., Char Chaplin, one page, 4to, Los Angeles, California, 16th April 1916, to Miss Edythe Kaufman, on the attractive printed stationery of the Charlie Chaplin Music Publishing Co. and featuring two vignettes, one of the youthful Chaplin in a head and shoulders pose. Chaplin acknowledges receipt of his correspondent's interesting letter, stating in part `I beg to acknowledge with many thanks the receipt of your very interesting letter and wish to say that it is a genuine pleasure for me to hear from all my Screen friends and of their interest in my work...´ Further, and before concluding, Chaplin reports on his new projects, and his decision of changing the film Company he will work with, saying `I have changed Companies and am now with the Mutual Film Company and am now with the Mutual Film Company and am busy working on my first picture, which will be released shortly by this Company. I trust it will give you the same pleasure and delight that all of my previous efforts have done.´ Paper with a Hickory Bond watermark. Two months before the present letter was written, on February 26, 1916, Chaplin signed a contract with the Mutual Film Company for twelve short films. A subsidiary, the Lone Star Corporation, was created specifically for the production of these films. From that moment on, Chaplin had his own teams and total control over the production.
Chaplin refers to the film he is working on, the first film which will be released with the new company,referring to The Floowalker which would be the first produced by Chaplin for the Lone Star Corporation. It will be released on 15th May 1916, only a month after the present letter was written and as he annonuced to his correspondent.
