Description
Exceptionally fine linen tablecloth owned by Thomas "BlackJack" McGinty, with provenance. Produced by the famed linen experts Greenwald's. The tablecloth illustrates a horse race on an unspecified track, depicted with applique and satin stitch embroidery and comes to us from a member of the family. Tom McGinty, a featherweight boxer turned bootlegger, was well known for his connection with the Cleveland Syndicate. His gaming establishments, most notably The Mounds Club, were a target for Eliot Ness, which didn't stop him from founding the Desert Inn, working with Meyer Lansky, or owning multiple race tracks. Commissioned by his second wife, Helen Flanagan McGinty, the tablecloth comes with a copy of a letter referencing the production of the piece and saying that due to the time involved producing the sporting scene the manager hopes they "will not send him another order like this for a long, long time." Measurements are 84-1/2" x 137". This item can be shipped in-house. Multiple lot combined shipping may require 3rd Party shipping.
