The Yellow Spot Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa confusa) is a robust and striking pollinator, known for the vivid yellow mark on its thorax that contrasts sharply with its glossy black body. Unlike the honeybee, this solitary bee carves tunnels into wood to create its nests, hence the name “carpenter.” Despite its intimidating size and deep drone, it is generally non-aggressive, preferring to busily move from flower to flower in search of nectar. The yellow spot serves as a bright signature in flight—an emblem of strength, independence, and the essential, often-overlooked work of native bees in our ecosystems.
