(1816 - 1895) Soldier in the Texas Revolution, a Texas Ranger, and Confederate brigadier general in command of Texas' defensive forces who led a brigade in an attempt to relieve Vicksburg. War-date A.E.S. cut from a larger document, 3 x 3.5 in., [place uncl.], Feb. 5, 1863, in full: ‘Respectfully forwarded to Genl [John G.] Walker for his information. Col C was sent to Texas by me under Genl [Theopolis H.] Holmes instructions to collect and bring these men to this Division.’ He signs in full at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank ‘Brig Genl Comd Brigd’. Mounted to a slightly larger card, shows soiling and adhesive residue overall, otherwise in very good condition.
