Description

Early 20th Century. A wonderful staff with an amazing patina. The Ovimbundu are a Bantu ethnic group who live on the Bié Plateau of central Angola and in the coastal strip west of these highlands. This staff would have been used for several generations as a symbol of power by prominent figures in a village. A crack on the back of the head that is not structurally an issue. There is a repair of the black head crest. Previous provenance from a San Francisco dealer. We guarantee every item as described, and have 2-3 experts look at each item to come to a consensus.
